Overscheduled Children

From even the youngest of ages, it seems that children today have a full calendar every day of the week. For families with two or more children and parents who work outside the home, it can get pretty hectic to get everyone to the right place at the right time. Its hectic for the parents, but what about the kids?
“Children who are overscheduled have a higher incidence of anxiety, especially performance anxiety and wondering how they’re doing in a certain activity, or striving for protection”, says University of Michigan child psychologist Michelle Kees.
As a parent of three children myself, it is often hard to limit their activities because we see how much fun they are having. They also are learning great life lessons from both school and non-school activities.
- Do you think you are “overscheduled”?
- Do your parents “push” you into certain activities?
- Do you feel pressure to be more involved knowing that employers and college applications want more and more?

No, I hardly do anything just stay at home.
My parents never pressure me into doing anything I don't want to. If I tell them no, they know I mean no.
Kids that are pushed to do stuff they don't want to do are more likely too rebel and get into trouble because they want to do their own thing, not what every one else wants them to do.
Kids get sick and ran down because they're worn out of all the activites. They have no time for friends or time to themselves.
I believe that teachers in the schools dont understand that kids have other activitities, so they load them on homework and that is what makes kids so overschedualed. Also, kids want to try new things but once they start there parents wont let them quit so there involved in to many activities. Thank you for your time and attention.
My house has 9 or more kids at it. Though it depends on the day, and I have alot of free time. If I want it.
My parents rarely pressure me into doing something that I don't want to do. Alot of the time they don't have to i'll just agree with them.
Alot, of kids that are pushed to do stuff are more likely to rebel, and more often than not they hate what they're forced into doing. Kids that are forced are more likely to get in trouble.
Kids can get sick from to much activity.

No, I am not overscheduled. My parents want me to try things but in the end, its my decision.
Yes, I would say I have a lot to do all the time... but never too much for me to handle. And I always finish what I start. My parents don't push me into anything, but they thinkn I need to carry on the family name in playing sports but I never do anything I don't want to. When I fill out applications, if they don't like what they see, then I guess they don't get the privilege of having me at their school:)... I'm not gonna go and take thirty classes over just to get into a school. Not trying to be negative by the way...
well as far as overschedulling goes i pretty much go to school and hang out with friends. sometimes i hav diffrent people wanting to do things with me at the same time but thats easily gets worked out
My life is very hectic. I am a majorette, and we practice 7 times a week. 5 out of the 7 are at 6:00 every morning. I am also invloved in 4-H. Just like everyother teen, I enjoy hangig out with friends. My parents do not pressure me do get invlolved. I am always trying to get involved more at school. I think geting involved in the community is one of the best ways to get into a good college, along with GREAT grades.
I don't think I am at my healtiest point right now, because I never have energy to do much when I am at home, and I am always tired. Waking up at 4:15 can take a huge toll on you!
